Bessie E. Allen, 94, of 711 Crawford St, Covington d. at 6:15 a.m. today in Covington Manor Nursing Home. She had been a patient for six months. Mrs. Allen, a resident of Covington for approximately 75 years was a 50-year member of 1st Baptist Church at Covington. Born Dec 26, 1886 in Parke County, she was a daughter of Davis and Ida Haga Lawson. She married Elijah J. Allen Nov 24, 1906 at Covington. He died 1962. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Don (Laura) Marr and Mrs. Max (Madeline) Layton, both of Covington; a brother, Iven Lawson of Perrysville; two grandchildren, John Layton of Williamsport and Gene Layton of Danville; and 3 great grandchildren. A daughter and son preceded her in death. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church at Covington with Rev. Glenn Ray and Rev. Gregg Curtis of the First Baptist Church and Rev. Briggs King of Maranantha Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington. Friends may call at Dickerson Funeral Home 2-9 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Bessie E. Allen of Covington, age 94, died Wednesday morning, January 28, at Covington Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Parke County, December 26, 1886, the daughter of Davis and Ida Haga Lawson. November 24, 1906, she married Elijah J. Allen, who died in 1962. Mrs. Allen was a member of Covington First Baptist Church for 50 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Laura Marr and Mrs. Madeline Layton, both of Covington; a brother, Iven Lawson of Perrysville; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A daughter, Lois, and a son, Kenneth, preceded her in death. The body was taken from Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg to the Covington First Baptist Church for funeral services Friday afternoon with Rev. Glenn Ray Jr., Rev. Gregg Curtis and Rev. Briggs King officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. – thanks to S
